Jesus' Mission is Our Mission

This past Sunday we kicked off our church-wide 4 week study on evangelism by taking a closer look at the Great Commission, what Jesus commanded, and how His mission has become our mission.  This coming Sunday we will look at our role as Christ's ambassadors (2 Cor 5:14-21) and royal priests (1 Peter 2:9-10).  And don't forget...
YOUR HOMEWORK!

1.) Know the gospel.  Come up with one sentence that defines the gospel.  Come prepared to share.
2.) Seek and pray.  Seek out three lost people you know and pray that God would enable you to share Jesus with them.  Feel free to add these names to our weekly prayer list so that we can start praying alongside you for their salvation!

After the lesson, we reflected on a powerful song by Texas songwriters Billy and Cindy Foote (website, iTunes), "Rescue the Perishing."  You can listen to it by playing the video below.  There is no official video from Billy and Cindy that I could find, but the maker of this video claims they were given permission to use the song.

I'll leave you with the lyrics for further reflection.

Rescue The Perishing
Billy Foote, Fanny Jane Crosby

Verse 1:
Rescue the perishing
Care for the dying
Snatch them in pity
From sin and the grave
Weep o'er the erring one
Lift up the fallen
Tell them of Jesus
The mighty to save

Chorus:
Rescue the perishing
Care for the dying
Jesus is merciful
Jesus will save
Church open your eyes once more
And see what Christ died for
Jesus is merciful
Jesus will save

Verse 2:
Down in the human heart
Crushed by the temptor
Feelings lie buried
That grace can restore
Touched by a loving heart
Wakened by kindness
Chords that are broken
Will vibrate once more

Bridge:
As we're playing our songs
While we're singing them well
Have we forgotten the lost
The reality of hell
If we say we love God
Wanna see His will done
Will we offer our lives
Or just the songs we have sung
Do we even care
When will we care
